SNUG |
Snug is owned and loved by Clay Luther of Dallas, TX. An "only Whippet child," he is the center of pet-attention in the household and on the Travis Walking trails.
Clay tells me that Snug "has this
thing about earthworms. Either he can hear them or smell
them, but he will stop when he detects one, dig it up, and then roll
around on it until it's squashed flat. It's weird. He's started "talking" more.
Not barking, but coming up to me in the middle of the day and making "rwwwr
raaaahhhh wwwwwrrrrrrr wfffffffff"
noises, usually translating to something like "Stop playing what that
computer. See my ball here? It needs throwing."
Recently, Clay sent me a Snuggy-update:
"Snug is doing great. He has a huge personality and is, pretty much, my
constant companion. I try to take him with me wherever I go, and he has
learned to enjoy traveling with me..
He loves, perhaps more than anything, going to the park and running. He will quite vocally remind me every day when it is time to go to the park (hint: when the light turns a certain shade in the evening). He is popular and friendly with the other neighborhood dogs, who love running with, chasing, and being chased by him.
Last week, he was "asleep" in another room and I was sitting at my computer working. I looked up and noticed it was approaching twilight. I said, to myself but in a normal voice, "Well, I guess I should take the dog to the park." Within a few moments, he was sitting next to me, head cocked, and fully expectant...
He has impeccable table manners --
I started training him in restaurants when he was a puppy (YES! There
are restaurants that are
dog-friendly in Dallas and will gladly accept you and your
[well-behaved] dog) -- and he always elicits numerous comments from
people
on his physical beauty, his intelligence, and his calm, affectionate,
and gentle nature when we're out. So many people have never met a
whippet before and Snug seems to make a great impression on them.
He still loves little girls and
dingo bones."
